The Missing Link in University Career Services

In my own career journey, I understand with greater clarity the keys to making good decisions about one's own career. I invite you to read the blog post I recently wrote for the Highlands Company. In this piece, I present an integrated approach to recognizing the important elements of exploration for high school and college students who are on the path to making good decisions about their majors and careers. I realize the great difficulty in making these important choices early on and have discovered part of the challenge: the natural inclination for a student is to start with all of the occupational choices available in our world today. So many students look at current careers and try to pick the one they think is right for them. This is the exact opposite perspective on where they should begin and is akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. The starting point should be an exploration of themselves in a quest to answer the critically important question, "Who am I?" and then to explore the careers that rise to the top as their best possibilities. If you're interested in learning more about my approach, my blog will hopefully give you some good insights with actual examples of my work with students at this incredibly important time of their lives.
